East Canyon Reservoir had "just about the same size crowd at last year" according accord-ing to Dexter Pitman, Department De-partment of Wildlife Resources Resour-ces fisheries manager for the northern section. Many 10 to 12-inch rainbow ranging to three-quarters of apound were taken by anglers there. The boat fishing, as usual, was much better than the shore fishing and an angler walking away with the six trout limit was not uncommon uncom-mon sight. What good fishing there was on Saturday vanished on Sunday as few fishermen were lucky. Rockport Reservoir saw fewer people on its shores and in its waters than last year. Again the boat fishermen fisher-men fared better than the shore anglers. Eoaters were getting pretty Don liuido, Salt Lake City, said he drove around for two hours on opening day of the fishing season before settling on Kimball Creek. good numbers of two year-old year-old trout and could be selective about those they kept in their creels. Shore fishermen, depending depend-ing on the area they fished, reported fair to good fishing and many caught their limit. Echo Reservoir saw very light pressure and Pitman said the fishing there was "as good as it has been in the past 10 years". Rainbows were abundan and an occasional brown can be taken in the canal that passes under the interstate. That part of the Weber River, south of Echo, was reported as running high and hard but still capable of producing rainbows, white-fish white-fish and a brown or two. Many of the Uinta lakes are still ice covered and the fishing mediocre. Pitman said several fishermen fisher-men marched through the snow to record decent catches in the lakes there. The DWR has not stocked the Uinta lakes yet as . conditions have prevented the truck's access there. |
