Show Glenwood Clean Up Again Tliis Weekend The Glenwood Cemetery Association in cooperation with the Park City Historical Society, is sponsoring volunteer clean up operations at the Cemetery Saturday and Sunday, June 6 and 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Picking up deadwood, clearing gravesites of unwanted overgrowth, picking up discarded containers arc all part of the volunteer effort to improve this Historic site. Gravestones date back to the early 1880's when the cemetery was privately operated by local Masonic organizations and the Catholic Church. Many members of pioneering Park City families are laid to rest there. A short walk along flower lined pathways reveals over 150 species of native plants identified by Lois Arnow and Beverly Albce, volunteers from the University of Utah Herbanium. In the interest of preserving and restoring the Glenwood, botanists have marked areas where undesirable overgrowth should be removed. Unwanted trimmings and trash are piled by roads for removal by city trucks later. Future cemetery plans include fencing of the 5.5 acre site, erecting ornamental gates and walking stiles to encourage pedestrians and discourage off-road vehicles. The Elks, under the direction of Mel Fletcher have volunteered to do repair and replacement on broken and overturned markers. The Utah Hybernium Society has been extremely supportive in documenting history, identifying families for documentation documentat-ion and forming a mailing list for the Cemetery Association. The Glenwood needs the support of anyone who has an interest in preserving Park City's past for the future.
