Show Cocaine Defendants Plead Guilty The three reamirfing defen- dants in the alleged "Park j City cocaine conspiracy j case" pleaded guilty May 27 before United States District Judge David K. Winder. Corky Foster and Allen Savage pleaded guilty to charges ofaiding and abet-ing abet-ing the distribution of one pound of cocaine and Sheila Jones to a reduced charge of simple possession of the substance. Earlier 26 defendants were indicted by a Grand Jury based on the testimony of Foster. Later, however, Foster Fost-er refused to testify in court during-the actual trial of the defendants which necessitated necessi-tated dropping charges a-gainst a-gainst all but three of the alleged co-conspirators. The pleas were entered May 27 just prior to the beginning of the selection process for a second jury in the case. The day before a mistrial was granted by Judge Winder after some 50 prospective jurors witnessed Foster being led shackled into the courtroom. According to state and federal narcotics enforcement enforce-ment officers, at least 10,000 man-hours were expended 4 'ng the investigation termed "Operation Snow-flake". Snow-flake". The investigation also involved wire tapping and the purchase of over $50,000 worth of drugs by undercover agents. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sam Alba who prosecuted the case told the Record the time energy and money expended on the investigation investigat-ion was well spent because "any time you can get someone dealing in quantities quanti-ties as large as pounds it's worth any effort." |
