Show Netters Beat Dugway in Season Opener The Park City High School boys tennis team began their season on a winning note, netting a win against Dugway last Thursday on the Mustangs home court. Playing Play-ing three singles and two doubles matches, the Miners won by a score of 3 to 2. Tennis coach, David Chaplin, said he was pleased with his team's first outing. "It's a very solid team. Our singles are excellent and the number one doubles team is first rate," he said. "We were close to beating Dugway 4 to 1 instead of 3 to 2," Chaplin added. The team holds practices twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday at Park City Racquet Club. 1-A competition in tennis will last until the end of April, followed by the Region 11 tournament May 4. David Chaplin said the stiffest competition in the region is St. Joseph. Members of Park City High School's tennis team include Russell Ratcliff, David Radford, Seaton Prince, Kevin Wade, Louis Leatham, Chip Dyer, Paul Dyer and Malcolm Vance. The Miners next match is against South Summit today at the Racquet Club. Coach Chaplin said he appreciated Lloyd Stevens for donating tennis balls for the match against the Wildcats. "The kids are working extremely ex-tremely hard," Chaplin said. "They've shown a lot of spirit." |
