Show Traditions at PCHS Defended "As far as my knowledge is concerned," Dozier continued, "there has been no discussion to change the emblem." A student Council meeting was held the day after last week's issue of the Record came out to discuss the nature of the letter, and Lisa Stagg said the letter was factually inaccurate and " totally . based on rumor." "We were shocked," said the student body president. Last week's letter, which was submitted, unsigned, also indicated indi-cated there was not enough time to prepare for the high school's annual junior prom. Dr. Dozier said that he met with the student council earlier in the year to discuss allowing one day, as opposed to three days, for prom decoration. Another subject which came up at that meeting concerned signing yearbooks. It was agreed, Dozier said, to allocate one day to sign yearbooKS instead of three days as in years past. And Lisa Stagg added that although it had been mentioned to consider discontinuing "Lagoon "La-goon Day," it was decided not to, and Lagoon Day would remain at the high school. "Our traditions are getting even better. We're adding to the old ones," said Dede Callahan. Dr. Dozier summed up his feelings regarding tradition at Park City High School: "The traditions are to be preserved and honored so long as they broaden the education, growth and learning of our young people." In last week's issue of the Record, a letter was submitted which said that certain traditions at Park City High School were changing and that high school principal Jack Dozier was responsible respon-sible for these changes. The Record contacted this week not only Dr. Dozier but student body president, Lisa Stagg, and senioi ; class president, Dede Callahan, to determine the veracity of the charges made in the letter. The letter itself said that the school song and emblem were being changed. Both Lisa Stagg and Dede Callahan said neither the song or emblem would change while Dr. Dozier added he was "shocked" when he first read about it in the Record. "I investigated it and found out there had been some discussion in the music department about writing a school alma mater to go along with the old school fight song," said Dozier. |
