Show Chamber Made required last year. Publications The Chamber of Commerce attempts to the best of its ability to see that Park City is well represented in promotional publications, publi-cations, whether put out by county, regional or state agencies. agen-cies. We recently received the 1978 issue of Utah Travel Guide which will be distributed to 1,000,000 people and were dismayed to find that information on Park City was either outdated, left out, incomplete incom-plete or in some cases non existant. We felt it our obligation to make our feelings known and to this end wrote letters, to both Governor Matheson and Melva Sine of Utah Innkeepers Assoc. Inc. who produces the guide, outlining our concerns and requesting that in the future we be contacted before any information informa-tion is published. These letters, along with a detailed description of the errors or inadequacies, were sent also to heads of Utah Travel Council, Mountainlands Travel Council and Summit County Travel Council and will appear as letters to the Editor in this week's Park City papers. If you'd like to see for yourself just how poorly Park City is represented in the Utah Travel Guide, stop in the office and pick one up. We hope our efforts will bring better results next year! Miscellany Chamber Member Profile We have had some positive feedback on our new series of articles. Next Chamber Board Meeting Thursday, May 4, 1978 8:30 a.m. Chamber office One Last Event Vith ski season almost at an end scheduled closing date is May 8, depending on snow conditions there is still one major event we should be aware of. The 14th Annual Miller Media Medley at the resort on April 9. This is a time when all the Wasatch Front media people are invited to the resort for a day of racing and comaraderie, and a great time for us to show the people who "advertise" us what a great place Park City is. So, welcome the media people on April 9. Board Briefs The Chamber Board held their monthly meeting on March 23 at the Park City Learning and Cultural Center at Prospector Square. Following are the main points from the meeting. Transportation A committee formed from members of the board decided to meet within the week with the City and Transportation Transpor-tation group to try and seek solutions to our ongoing transportation transpor-tation "problem" in Park City. (This meeting was held on Tuesday the 28th and was extremely active and productive. Details will be forthcoming). Main Street Liquor Store The Boad has sent a letter to the Liquor Commission supporting retaining a liquor store in the Main Street area. It was decided at the meeting that representatives representa-tives from the board would attempt to meet with the commission as soon as possible to discuss this matter. Memberships It was.decided to poll non members to ascertain their feelings about Chamber membership and why they had not joined. This will be discussed at the next meeting and non members will be approached based on this knowledge. Business and Membership Lists It was decided that lists of Park City businesses and Chamber Cham-ber members would be distributed distri-buted free upon request to Chamber members and that non members would be charged for this service. Contact us if you would like such a list. Communications Conference The Park City Chamber of Commerce and Summit County Travel Council are interested in assessing and determining the utilization of Park City's potential. poten-tial. In an effort to look realistically at Park City's problems prob-lems and hopefully generate some target goals to work toward, the Chamber and Summit County Travel Council are sponsoring a one day workshop to draw together as many interested participants as possible from the fields of promotion, business and civic government - in other words, those people who are vitally concerned about Park City. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, April 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and with lunch hosted by Summit County Travel Council, at the Park City Learning and Cultural Center at Prospector Square. Dr. John Hunt and his staff from the Institute for the Study of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism -at Utah State University have consented to come to our workshop and lead the discussions. discus-sions. Dr. Hunt has nationwide experience in conducting such sessions and has just recently returned from Washington, D.C. where he worked on the National Tourism Policy Task Force. It is our sincere hope and intention that this will be a constructive experience for each of the participants and that the ideas generated will help us formulate some realistic plans for Park City's direction and future. If you would like to be a part of this exciting day, call the Chambe office at 649-8899 by Wednesday, April 19, to make your reservations. reserva-tions. Art Festival Update Applications for participation in the 1978 Park City Arts Festival, August 19 and 20, are now being accepted by the Chamber of Commerce. The festival's primary pri-mary objective, to act as an educational experience for both artist and public, is upheld by placing strict standards of acceptability accept-ability on all work. Therefore, only artists and craftsmen displaying dis-playing their own original work will be eligible to participate and acceptance will be limited to specific art categories. For eligibility guidelines and application blanks contact the Chamber. Entries, including a $15.00 non-refundable application applica-tion fee, must be postmarked by midnight June 1, 1978. Jury selection will take place by June 15 and notification of acceptance or rejection will be mailed to each applicant by July 1, 1978. Regulations for accepted artists are generally the same this year and are fully explained in the application brochure available at the Chamber. However, to accomodate the artist and alleviate allevi-ate some bookwork during exhibitor exhib-itor days, a change has been made in fee requirements. A flat "display fee" of $50.00 for a 10 ft. space and $75.00 for a 20 ft. space will be requested instead of a percentage of safes" as " was |
