Show Ten O'Clock Whistle by David Flelsher academy awards Following Monday night's academy awards shown on television, another convention for awards was held at the 75 foot level in the Ontario Mine. This later academy awards meeting was not widely publicized due to the inconvenience of its location. But many notables did show up and awards were given out. Usually, these academy awards presentations, like the one on television Monday night, are innundated with press people. But I was fortunate enough to have an exclusive at the ceremonies deep down in the Ontario. Following is a list of all the important winners. Local and national awards were handed out in many different categories. The Humanitarian award was given to Yasser" Arafat for his continued efforts to arrive at a peaceful solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict. Rather than an award of certificate, Mr. Arafat received an olive branch. The award for BEST RESTAURANT was rather difficult to figure out since it went to an unnamed Chinese restaurant which the academy said it hopes will open up soon in Park City. MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED: relations between Park City and the rest of the county. MOST POPULAR OBSCURE PLACE IN THE WORLD: Ogaden Desert at the horn of Africa MOST INTENSELY DISLIKED NEWSMAN: Mike Wallace BEST ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE: Vanessa Redgrave again took top honors, not for her performance in "Julia," but for her inspiring political speech during the earlier academy awards show on television. The Ontario Academy concluded Ms. Redgrave should receive the award because she succeeded in alienating probably 95 percent of the Jewish community in the United States. BEST ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE: Vying in different mediums, Lassie and Al Capone tied. BEST ACTOR: Woody Allen for every movie he has ever made. BEST ACTRESS: Anita Bryant for her promotion of Florida orange juice. MOST CREATIVE ARTISTIC ENDEAVOR: the pothole in front of Mt. Air Mall which seems to take on different shapes as each day passes BEST CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN PRESIDENT: Jimmy Carter BEST TYPEWRITER FOR WRITING SCREENPLAYS: "Underwood "Under-wood Neurotic-matic" MOST OBNOXIOUS TYRANT: Idi Amin BEST SONG: "Why Me?" by Tongsun Park Instead of choosing just one BEST PICTURE award, the academy decided to choose three which they felt deserved equal recognition. The top three winners for the BEST PICTURE award were: (1) Annie Hall (2) Annie Hall (3) Annie Hall And finally, the academy ended the Ontario ceremonies by awarding BEST SOUND EFFECTS to the Ten O'Clock Whistle. |
