Show Local Fishing Forecast Good for June 3 Opener lower stretches of the Green River between Little Hole and Brown's Park. Be sure to follow all safety precautions while floating the river. Moon Lake: Will be stocked with rainbow catchables. Also some nice brook and cutthroat are found there naturally. There are no access problems. However, water level may be somewhat low. Excellent camping facilities available as well as a lodge and cabins. Strawberry River: This is a "quality fishing stream" and provides some excellent fly fishing for the expert. Only artificial flies are allowed. Fishing season for this stream between Soldier Creek and Red Creek is between July 15th and September 15th. The limit is 6 fish. Check your proclamation for all the regulations. The Strawberry River Riv-er below Red Creek will be stocked with rainbow catchables and will be open for the June 3 opener. Caution: Strawberry River, Currant Creek, Red Creek Reservoir, Reser-voir, Lake Canyon Lake and the West Fork of the Duchesne all open later and are patrolled by truck and airplane. Check your proclamation. Uinta Mountain Lakes: Access into most of the high country will be limited until at least July 1 tlm year because of snow conditions. Backpackers and horseback riders enjoy cutthroat and brook trout fishing at its best. Beaver Creek Summit County: Coun-ty: Will be totally stocked. Some large browns will show up. Good for rainbow trout and albino. Beaver Creek: Stocked with rainbow trout and some cats. Good for opening. Butterfly Lake: Not open -Snowbound. Chalk Creek: Water high and muddy, will not be stocked. East Canyon Reservoir: Fair, tradition shows good from boats, slower from the shore. East Canyon Creek, Below Reservoir: Not stocked, high and muddy. East Canyon Creek, Above Reservoir: Not stocked, high and muddy. Echo Reservoir: Should be fair. Small 9"-10" fish. Reservoir will be full and muddy on upper half. Lilly Lake: Not open - Snowbound. Snow-bound. Lost Lake: Not open - Snowbound. Snow-bound. Pass Lake: Not open Snowbound. Upper Provo: Will be stocked up to Shady Dell Campground. Rainbow trout should produce fair fishing. Trial Lake: Not open -Snowbound. Wanship Reservoir Rockport Reservoir: Fair for 9"-12" fish. Lake will be full. Weber River: Last minute stock if water visibility and turbidity subsides. Weber River Lower: High and muddy. No plants until after the 4th of July. Weber River - Gateway to Devils Slide: Not stocked, high and muddy. Weber River - Devils Slide to Echo: Not stocked, high and muddy. South Fork Weber River: Will be stocked. Good for rainbow trout and albinos. The 1978 fishing season opener in the northeastern part of the state is expected to be good this year. The water level in most of the reservoirs is expected to be about average with very few exceptions. Most of the streams in the area are expected to be high and roily for the opener, therefore, most fishing activity will occur on the reservoirs and streams regulated by impoundments. Currant Creek: This stream opens July 1st. Fishing is expected to be good for 12" cutthroat and brown trout as well as some catchable rainbow. It is expected to have a high run off. Improved access into the area will draw large crowds. There are limited campgrounds in the area. Duchesne River: This river is designated as a wild fish stream and receives no catchable fish. Brown, cutthroat and whitefish can be caught in the Duchesne River. Most of the area around this stream is private land so please respect it. East Park Reservoir: This reservoir is located along the Red Cloud Loop road and is accessable by paved road except for the last mile. Improved campgrounds are available and expect pan sized rainbow with an added treat of some nice brook trout. Weather permitting, this reservoir will be stocked prior to the opening weekend. Flaming Gorge Reservoir: This year-round water presently holds the world record for the largest brown trout caught. Fishing can be spotty, however, many large brown and lake trout have been taken during the spring months. Fishing has been quite slow for the rainbow trout. Several improved campgrounds are available to the angler as well as five boat ramps on the Utah side of the reservoir. A large crowd is expected on Memorial Day as well as the opener on June 3. Green River: This stream offers a variety of entertainment. Float trips are growing more popular every year and fishing for rainbow catchables can provide a good angling experience. Cutthroat Cut-throat are also common. The modification of the penstock on the Flaming Gorge Dam will enhance the fishery as well as make the float trip more enjoyable. A seven mile trail between the dam and Little Hole allows for easy foot access along the stream. Large rainbow are found in the |
