Show code changes recommended The planning commission last week sent their recommendations to the city council for the adoption of two new additions to the Land Management Code brought on by recent isssues. An amendment to the hotel exception ordinance, which would allow certain high density developments on lots extending from. Main Street to Park Avenue, was recommended to the council in time for a public hearing this week. The amendment was drawn up by commissioner Roy Reynolds after expansion plans for the Claimjumper hotel and restaurant were denied because the proposed density was higher than the present ordinance allows on Park Avenue. An ordinance creating a new recreation open space zone also received the recommendation of the commission. Homeowners near the resort golf course had requested that the course be rezoned, spurred by fears that it may soon be sold. City Planner David Preece, who will draw up the exact boundaries for the new zone with City Attorney Michael McCoy, told the Record the zone will also apply to city parks and future golf courses planned for development. zone change request tabled Reluctant to encourage the spread of commercial zoning on Park Avenue, the planning commission last week tabled a request by Ron Mahoney for a zone change to allow expansion of his laundromat and referred the matter to the Board of Adjustment. Mahoney had asked for a zone change from residential to commercial for two-tenths of an acre of property to allow an expansion in the rear of the building. Under local ordinances, an existing commercial building in a residential zone cannot be expanded without a zone change, but the commission encouraged Mahoney to proceed with his plans by appealing to the Board of Adjustments as a "hardship" case. sign permits The planning commission last week granted sign approvals to the Ski Connection at the resort center and to the Main Street Deli. Approval of a sign for Dr. Jon Lambert's dental office on North Park Avenue was denied because it did not conform to the requirements of the sign ordinance. |
