Show EDITORIAL Good Luck Graduates Park City High School will hold graduation exercises tonight and 32 graduates will receive their diplomas, marking an end of formal education in Park City. But it is actually more of a beginning than an end as each one strides forward to meet the various challenges that lie ahead. The meaning of graduation is sometimes lost in all the excitement, yet the basic significance of graduation has always been and should continue to be focused on student achievement. Those students graduating tonight should feel proud when they are handed their diplomas. We should not forget that high school diplomas are not given, not even recognized, in many countries throughout the world. Graduation is a time to reflect not only on one's future, but on the past as well. Whether one goes to college, trade school, or off to a job, a fundamental and lasting learning experience has already been accomplished. As one looks to the future, the words of the prophet, Hillel, may be worth remembering: "If I am not for myself, who will be? If I am ONLY for myself, what am I? If not now, when?" The Record congratulates the Park High graduates and wishes them the best of luck in their endeavors. a |
