Show Changes Planned for Rosie's -, v 4. 1 , . if:, i' ii . v" J Rosie's liquor store on Main Street is under new management. Paul Becker, a student at the University of Utah who is currently working at the Claim-jumper Claim-jumper restaurant, will assume operation of the liquor outlet today, June 1, replacing Don Millicam, owner of the Car 19 restaurant and private club. The new operator, who has four years experience managing a liquor store in California, was approved last month by the state liquor commission. The commission commis-sion had been looking for a new operator for the package agency since February, when they announced Millican could no longer manage the store because of the state's policy of keeping liquor stores independent of restaurants and private clubs. Becker told the Record Friday he will continue to keep the store at its present location, leasing the building from Millicam, and will assume Millicam's contract with the liquor commission. Becker said he will try to make the store "more accessible" and hopes to stock convenience food items by next winter. Paul Becker "The first thing I'm going to do is take down the glass cage," he said. "I want to make it easier for tourists and locals to get liquor." Although he said the liquor commission will not let him return to self-service, Becker said he hopes to re-arrange the store so customers can more easily inspect the stock, particularly wines, before making a purchase. "I'd like to make it so you don't need binoculars to see what's available," he said. |
