Show . j II "JZ-L ' I J :' J f I : " A . - i Eleanor Bennett Eleanor Wins with "Life" contest last year. Top three winners were named in short story, poetry and featu-rettes featu-rettes categpries. Eleanor has -been writing fiction and non-fiction for approximately approx-imately 25 years and managed a newspaper in Larchmont, New York in the 1940's. "The first effort I made toward writing was when I was in Larchmont," Eleanor said. "I wrote a play and we produced it." This year was the first time she entered her poetry in a contest. "I do it for fun," Eleanor said of her writing. The Utah Federation of Women's Wo-men's Clubs is part of the General Federation of Women's Clubs which 'is the largest women's volunteer organization in the world. The General Federation has clubs in 45 foreign countries and the state organization includes includ-es 3100 members. Eleanor is third vice president of the Utah Federation. She has been a member of the national organization for 41 years. And she is president of the local Athenaeum Club. City councilman Eleanor Bennett Ben-nett took second place in a statewide writing contest spon- i sored by the Utah Federation of i Women's Clubs. The annual contest was divided into three separate writing categories: short story, poetry and featurettes. Eleanor entered the poetry competition and was awarded second place, along with a check, at the state convention of the Federation held in Logan May 4, 5, and 6. The title of the poem is, "Life." Eleanor's writing has obviously impressed the judges in the past as she won first place two years ago in the same contest in short story category. And three years ago, she took home a third place, also in short story. Because of her first place finish two years ago, Eleanor was ineligible to enter the writing |
