Park City without electricity Thursday morning. Thursday Black-Out Hits North Park City An underground cable failure near Park City's Utah Power and Light substation left the north part of town, Snyderville and Kimball's Junction without electricity elec-tricity for over three hours last Thursday morning. According to Utah Power and Light District Representative Wayne Bruening, the cable failed at approximately 8:30 a.m., taking out electrical service for the area fed by the company's number two circuit, including everything north of the Monroe cement plant as far as the junction, with the exception of Thaynes Canyon and the resort area, which is served by another circuit. Power crews pinpointed the trouble almost immediatley, Bruening said, but it took until noon to restore power by installing a temporary "shoe fly" cable to bypass the bad cable. Bruening said the cable was a main feeder line into the substation, which is located near the Coalition Building on Park Avenue. By Friday afternoon, crews were working to permanently replace the cable, but the exact cause Thursday's failure was still not known. "We don't know why it failed, it just did," said Bruening. "It . could have been a faulty cable or a number of things." |
