Show Elk's, Masonic Renovations OK'd Two of Main Street's most prominent buildings will shortly undergo major remodeling and renovation adding credence to a growing movement towards the restoration of the area's historic facades. Final architectural and site plan approval was given to Sunn Classic Pictures by the Planning Commission Wednesday evening for interior and exterior remodeling remodel-ing and renovation of the Elk's Lodge and Masonic Hall buildings build-ings located at 550 Main Street. Sunn's plans call for major facade restorations on both buildings in keeping with Victorian Victor-ian architectural guidelines. The Elk's building will be re-stuccoed, possibly painted, and shutters will be added to the windows. Under their lease agreement with the Elk's, Sunn must spend $10,000 to restore the front of the building which is now used for filming indoor sequences for their movies and television productions. produc-tions. The plans presented for the Masonic Hall are far more extensive. They call for a 30 foot addition to the South of the present building which will house Sunn's post production and film editing facilities now located in Salt Lake. The height of the present structure will be lowered by 12 feet to match that of the proposed addition. According to the plans drawn up by architect Max Smith, windows would be added to the new windowless facade and a large central entrance covered by a roof over handing the sidewalk similar to Sunn's present building at 537 Main Street. Neutral wood siding will complete the exterior renovation. Planning Commissioners expressed ex-pressed some concern over the fact that the plans did not represent a Victorian enough facade for the Masonic building, but were relieved when Max Smith indicated their intention to re-work the windows more along those lines. A conditional use permit application for a new building planned for the lot South of the Silver Wheel Theater was tabled after representatives of the proposed Victorian development, which would house Park City Leatherworks, failed to make an appearance.
