J a VM Andrea Peterson Tory Pillineer Talented, young athletes representing rep-resenting the Park City Ski Club enjoyed their most successful season ever this year winning more races than any other club in the intermountain division. The determined racers, who have given Park City Nation-wide recognition as an area which has and will continue to produce some of the finest young skiers ,in the Country, were honored Thursday evening at an awards and fund raising banquet held at Adolph's Restaurant. At the dinner, which was attended by over 125 supporters of the Ski Club, tribute was also paid to the devoted coaches, concerned citizens and community commun-ity organizations and most of all to the tireless efforts put forth constantly by every single parent associated with the organization. Bob Marsh, hard working director of the Club, presided over the awards ceremony which followed cocktails and a buffet style dinner. "We have enjoyed our most successful season ever" Marsh told the large audience, "Apart from winning races we have achieved a high degree of character, sportsmanship and comraderie amongst all club members which is a credit to the program, the parents and the kids themselves." "Next year we plan to broaden our strength and increase our development and are looking forward to an excellent season ahead" said Marsh. Assistant director Patti Forma- celli and coaches Dick Stoner and j Karen Epiphanta were introduced receiving enthusiastic applause from those in attendance. "It's been my priviledge for the last 6 winters to be involved in the program," said Patti Formacelli, "When I started there were 9 racers on the team and now there are 76. We may not have a good football team in Park City but we sure have a great ski team." Certificates of appreciation! were then handed out by Marsh to those who gave more than their i fair share of support and help during the season. Awards went to the Park City Resort and Phil Jones and Wolfe's and Jan Peterson who have "done more than can be mentioned." To Matt and Helen Alvarez of the Timberhaus and to Jere Calmes and the Racquet Club "for support." To Mary Lou Toly and the Red Banjo, Smitty of the Eating Establishment, Bud Workman Work-man and Loren Larsen for hill grooming and to Allen Hays who "Loves the sport." Also to school officials who "helped the skiers keep their grades up, and in building good character." A-- A-- wards, .also. ..went Jo, Pete ; Toly,.'; Lloyd Stevens. Adolph and John Jenkins. Also appreciation to the local newspapers for their "continual "con-tinual support." Outstanding individual skier awards were bestowed next by former Olympic champion Stein Eriksen. In the Pee-Wee division, Mike Clark was honored as "most improved boy" and Erin Calmes as "most improved girl." Danny Autry was chosen "most enthusiastic" enthus-iastic" and Jere Calmes selected as the boy skier who "worked the hardest." Andrea Peterson was the girl who "performed the best" and Spence Eccles the "best performing boy." The "messy bib award" went to Bradley Holmes. In Novice competition, Claudia Wagner was selected "most improved girl", and Malcom Vance "most improved boy." Rolfe Sandburg was chosen "most enthusiastic" and Torry Pillinger "best performer." Kenny Ken-ny Lawsen was the Novice skier who "worked the hardest" and Nancy Denner offered the "most amount of help." - Dan Close was selected "most improved" in the Intermediate class and Sean Hazelrigg, "most enthusiastic." Arne Holquist was chosen "most helpful." Matias Alvarez received the "best performer" for a Novice award and his brother Marke was selected the "hardest worker." Park City's Expert racers were next to receive awards. Coach Bob Marsh explained that 26 skiers, more than in any other club in the division raced in Expert class. "Most improved" Expert racer award went to Erick Hays.' Jody and Suzi Robinson were chosen "most enthusiastic." The "best performer" award went to Rox-anne Rox-anne Toly who is on the United States Development Team and won the Junior Olympic competition competi-tion at Squaw Valley among many other races. Steve Evans received the "most helpful" award and Brian Hollander the "hardest worker." Steve Evans was selected as the "most outstanding male athlete" and Karri Hays the "most outstanding girl athlete." Jordan Swensen won "most dedicated boy" honors and Roxanne Toly was selected the "most dedicated girl." The "most enthusiastic group leader" award went to Sean Hazelrigg with "best attendance" attend-ance" honors going to Peter, Nancy and Dory Donner. Louie Leatham was selected the skier with the "most potential" and Jordan Swenson the "most looked up to."
