Show BIDS OPENED FOR IENJU6H HUE SALT LAKE.- Aug. 22. The start toward build. ng, the high line road of Ihe Salt Ivike route will be made today. It to declared, when bids are opened for the first 20 miles of tho now road. Although the rond Is now handling successfully Its freight and passenger traffic It Is only temporary and before many months are passed It expects to bave a new rond and one that will bo high aud dry and not be molested by the heavy fresh-lets fresh-lets and sweep southern Novada. Kx-Seuator William A- Clark, president pres-ident of the Salt Lako route, his brother J. Ross Clark, vice president of the coinpnny aud their chief engineer, engin-eer, E. G. Tllton, came over the road from the south this morning. This aftcrnoou they will open the bids for the new road. It Is for a stretch of 20 miles below Callente and will bo from 15 to 30 feet higher than the present tracks. Senator Clark has been In Ploche, CaLento and the country around for several days, and during that time has become quite familiar with the situation. Thus far It ha8 not been decided what route will be taken at this end of the rond In pulling In the permanent tracks It Is almost certain cer-tain Hint the road will not go out by Bennet's pass from Panacn, while it seems proiiable that It will enter tho val'ey In whlrh Panaca Is situated by wav of Sheep's pass. Persons who hve recently traveled the Ploche branch of the road believe thnt the now road will come in by Sheep's pass and ro down to Calient from Pnnrxca' Their conclusion Is drawn from the fact that the branch road his been put In with a considerable consider-able degree of permanency. |
