Show IH POLICE COURT In the police court this morning there were a number of Sunday Imbibers, Im-bibers, and not a few of those who started out early Saturday evening to drink freely of the flowing bowl. Ball In the sum of $5 each was declared de-clared forfeited In the cases of Jaa. R. Jensen and Nick Borl. who were arrested Sunday Dight on tho charge of drunkenness. Henry Read and R. Mullan, both acknowledged that they were "unlawfully "unlaw-fully drunk" yesterday. Read saying he thought he was "more sick than drunk," and tbey were sentenced to pay a fine of 5 each, or eerve five days In the city bastlle. J. Slekler, charged with disturbing the peace, was set for hearing tomorrow. Slckler appeared In court: and entered n plea of not guilty. He was released re-leased on his Own recognizance. A. Rose pleaded not guilty to the .charge of disturbing the peac-i. and .his trial wan continued until witnesses wit-nesses for the city could be brought into court The trial of the State against L. I. T)een of Plain City on the charge of cruelty to animals, was taken up and it will occupy the time of the court during the entire dav. The complaint charges that Mr. lleen failed to provide sufficient food for a bunch of cattle that he kept In his pasture from January 1st to February 15th of this year. It being sworn to by Joseph Ilutclu-nsen. Ten or twelve witnesses were sworn (o testify this morning, tbone who were placed upon the stand by the state up to the time of going to press, stating that the defendant fed his cattle on "eaU gras bay.." which has but little if any nurishment, and that the rattle became very poor, unme of them dying of what was considered con-sidered actual starvation. In bis defense Mr. Deen will maintain main-tain that he fed tho cattle as best he could., and that other hay was mixed with the salt grass hay. |
