Show PROSECUTION OF BUCKET SHOPS Washington, May 23. The department depart-ment of Justice took a new tack today In the crusade against bucket shops. In addition to the conspiracy charge made against twenty-nine men iu cities of New York, New Jersey, Baltimore Bal-timore and Washington rast April, the department today lodged a complaint com-plaint of a direct violation of section KS of the District code which forbids for-bids bucketing or sel'ing up a gaming table in the District. This direct charge o operating a bucket shop in the district is made against the persons per-sons who are said 'o constitute the Standard Stock & Grain company of Jersey City Four additional persons who were not mentioned in previous indictments are now named. These are Samuel W. Alder and C. A. Tlllls. known among his associates as "Cat" Tillfs of New York, and William Fox aud i E. M. Browning of Baltimore. 'Two indictments were returned today, to-day, charging conspiracy and the setting set-ting up of a gaming table against these four men in addition to nine eastern men. All are charged not only with entering into a conspiracy to violate the District law against bucket shops, but also with being engaged en-gaged In the'eonduct of the brokerage business run here in the name of Duryce & Company. , I |
