Show STATE BOARD ffiETSJ OGDEN The state library and gymnasium commission met at the ofilce of city superintendent of schools, John M. Mills, at 1:30 this afternoon, but all the members not being present, business busi-ness before the commission was n't acted upon. The next meeting will be held In Ogden, and, in the interim, the commission will meet with the state board of education to discuss matters of interest ,in relation to libraries li-braries and gymnasiums. This commission was created bv the recent legislature for thepurpo6e of aiding in the establishment of public pub-lic libraries and gymnasiums In the cities and towns of Utah, and to this end the commission has been working. work-ing. They were instrumental In obtaining ob-taining the Carnegie library for Tooele and Eureka and in many other instances the people of small towns have been induced to fund libraries. The gymnasium auxiliary Is recommended recom-mended because it serves as an inducement in-ducement to get the young people luto library. The personnel of the library and gymnasium commission Is as follows. Professor William M. Stewart, of the State University, chairman; Howard Driggs of the State University, secretary: secre-tary: Tlr E. A Cowans, superinten-I superinten-I dent of the Stale Industrial School; ! Dr. Georjrc Thomas of Salt Lake, and j Professor John S. Welch, superintendent superinten-dent of schools of Salt Lake. |
