Beirut, Juno C It Is evident that conditions everj where In Asia Minor aro far from settled and that It will take time and a government much stronger than tho present ono to make It possible for people to go about their duties with safety. After the terrible massacres and the pillage and the burning of Adana, a new vail and new troops were sent from Constantinople. Much was expected ex-pected of them but they havo not done much to Improve conditions. The Inefficiency of the government la seen and felt everywhere. Six thousand thous-and troops and hundreds of officers swarm about Adana and eat up tho best thero Is to be had. Relief committees com-mittees are compelcd to send Into tho country for the commonest food staples. The work of relief at Adana Is being pushed so far as means will allow. At present In the big camp, there aro 11.800 persons on tho ration list, while 1,400 more aro drawing dally rations fro mtho homo of ono of tho missionaries. Tho unfortunates have been herded together in rags and squalor, huddling under inadequate shelter to protect themselves from the heat, at night crowding together to protect themselves them-selves from tho cold because of Insufficient In-sufficient covorings. Under such conditions, con-ditions, there are in this camp today hundreds of children with measles. In ono hospital alone, there are more than 50 wounded. Crops in tho Adana region are rlpo and unless they are gathered soon, famine inevitably will result. Guard3 who protect the people who have dared to venture out to gather their crops have time and again proved tho treachery of the Turk. The farmers have been either stabbed or shot down as soon as they came outside of the city limits.
