Am u'niwiia marung in me TiAtlonai distance race of the Aero Club of America ad the endurance test of tho Aero Club of Indiana yesterday have landed. One, tho Indiana, entered In th national race, is reported to have dropped to earth at Shackle Island, Tenn., this evening, taking on water and alllng off south. Two balloons, it was reported from Nashville, were sighted about fifty miles south of that city. The balloons landing were the Chi-ca0' Chi-ca0' tae largest balloon entered, which came down at Scottsvlllc, Ky and the Indianapolis, with Dr. Link and R. j. Glrvin of Indianapolis, which landed at West Moreland. Tenn.; the Ohio, with Dr. H. W. Thompson of I Salem, O., and J. Blake of Canton, O., which landed last night at Nashville. Ind. Under the rules of the International Aeronautical Federation, Carl Fisher and his aide, G. L. Brumbaugh, were disqualified by landing and proceeding proceed-ing again. The Indiana endurance race was won I y Dr. Link and R. J. Irvin of Indianapolis. Indian-apolis. They were in the air about twenty-two hours, vTho Snlcgo was second and the Ohio third. The record is fortv-fonr hours, held by Alfred LeBlanc of France, who started in the interna- iortn raco from st' k0"'9 October 21, 190i, for the James Gordon Bennett cup If the balloons -now participated In tho race they will have to land near I ensacola and there would have no chance of beating the record. |
