Show WATCHING THE RACE. The human race, a friendly contest for "points" of Interest, between Salt Lake and Ogden over the capltol. I think a cartoonist lost an opportunity today in not getting up a reply to the Salt Lake Tribune ghost picture of the capltol building on the fronl page of yesterday; underneath this shadow picture was the words: Shall It NOT become a reality? .Ogden and country Utah should have been framed up In a proper attitude with tho very appropriate appro-priate reply, NOT YET! VOTE NO TOMORROW! There aro eo many reasons why this should be the verdict tomorrow, many of which have been given in tho Ogden papers, copied from the exchanges, ex-changes, that It is hardly worth while to give any more. We are 6ure that all thinking men (with very few exceptions) ex-ceptions) outside of Salt Lake, who have given this question any consideration, consid-eration, will vote no at this time. Of course, If we all lived :n Salt Lake and hold a state office or were in the real estate promoting business vrn would boost for the capltol building at this time. But If we wero farmers In tho country ar.d tho roacs were always al-ways to remain In their present prim- .mw (.uuuiuuu, umcaa mem were (2 concerted action and a well laid plan for good roads, we would think It wise to improve the roads and let the capitol cap-itol building business rest awhile until un-til we could get it fixed up to accept Ogden's offer toward the caprjol building, build-ing, and use the money that we would all be taxed for (if we let Salt Lake have the capital) In doing things for the people in general, an.? not Salt Lake in particular. The fellows wno are boosting hardest for the propos?-tion propos?-tion are politicians who do not know apparently that there is a Utah out-6ido out-6ido of Salt Lake except at election time. Salt Lake can much setter afford the luxury of a magnificent building that will be a credit to trie state than Ogden can. There arc lots of nice people who live there. They wear good clothes because they've got the money. Why don't they come forward with an offer in proportion to Ogden's offer toward building the capital? Until Un-til they frame up their answer VOTE NO TOMORROW. (Signed) J. T. HURST. |
