Show PROHIBITION OCCUPIED CENTER OF STAGE Porter Bill Calls Forth Hoated Discussion Bill Referred Back to Judiciary Fuii and Free Investigation of Measure From all Points Advocated Bill for Issuing Checks Without Funds Killed Outright. Prohibition occupied the center of the stage at Friday's session of the house. During a morning committee meeting the Porter bill was taken up and passed upon in a manner which failed to satisfy a majority of tho members mem-bers of the Judiciary commltteo.About half the members of the house saw fit to take a hand In the discussion and tho argument waxed warm towards the close. Brlgham Clegg talked for somo minutes, min-utes, notwithstanding a number of Interruptions In-terruptions based on points of order. Representative Clegg advocated a full and free investigation of the measure meas-ure on the ground that other and similar simi-lar bills would come up from time to time during the session and it behooved be-hooved the house to thoroughly understand under-stand the question from every point before be-fore taking action on so important a matter. Representative Porter, the father of the bill, made a few remarks in support sup-port of the proposed legislation and explained that tho bill was thorough In every point and actually prohibited all forms of spirituous, vinous, alcoholic alco-holic and malt liquors, Including patent medicines. The matter was finally referred re-ferred back to the committee on Judiciary, Ju-diciary, where It will probably remain for some time, as this particular com-tt com-tt ,c botit snowed under now. Hou3e bill No. 8L providing a pen-au, pen-au, ...r losing checks without funds In the bank to meet them, was killed outright. The bill came up for reconsideration, recon-sideration, moved by Brlgham Clegg, and after a short general discussion, a motion to strike out the enacting clause was passed.
