Show PRINCE ITO LEAVES KOREA FOR JAPAN Seoul, Feb. 6. The emperor of Korea Ko-rea paid a visit to the Japanese residency resi-dency today and had luncheon with Prince Ito, the resident general of Japan. Ja-pan. His majesty thanked Prince Ito for his great services to Korea and particularly during their recent tours through the country. Later In tho day Prince Ito returned the emperor's vIb-it. vIb-it. Prince Ito will sail for home on a Japanese warship next Wednesday. The report is prevalent that ne win not return, but he will be succeeded: by Viscount Terauchi, at present minister min-ister of war. In response to an inquiry today, Prince Ito said: "The question of my return to Korea depends entirely upon up-on the decision of AugiiBt Master, the Emperor of Japan " The failure of Prince Ito's return would be a matter mat-ter of deep regret to Koreans and foreigners alike, with whom he Is extremely ex-tremely popular. . His recent speecaes, however, have Indicated that unless there le an early cessation of sporadic rioting among the disaffected element, composed of a few Koreans, who, ho asserts, are hindering the progress ot the vast majority of the people or the country, stringent action would bo taken tak-en by Japan. , This Is taken to Indicate Indi-cate the probability of the annexation of Korea to Japan, and Prince Ito's discouragement because of tne apparent appar-ent Impossibility of securing the independence inde-pendence of Korea by means of friendly friend-ly guidance and protection. |
