Show OFFICERS DECLARED BLACK TO BE HONEST Tho petit larceny case of Richard Black, who pleaded not' guilty Monday, was continued in police court today, the defendant being finally discharged. discharg-ed. Black is the colored' man who so'd a suit case at a pawn shop, telling the proprietor that tho same and its contents belonged to him. It was later lat-er found that Black had bought the suit case from a negro, paying him $3 for it. Black stated that he let the other nesro have, the money, and kept the suit case until tho money should havo been returned to him. Owing to tho trouble over some stolen pelts, in which the other negro became Involved Involv-ed later on, and his Inability to redeem re-deem tho grip, Black stated that he felt Justified in selling the grip and also in saying that it belonged to him. Tho court warned Black that a "fence" for crooks was as bad as tho crooks themselves, and then discharged discharg-ed him upon the recommendation ot the officers who testified that they believed be-lieved Black to be an honest man. - |
