Show ELOQUENCE OF FAMOUS LAWYER COMMENTED UPON Chicago. Jan. 19. An amazing story i? told of tho eloquence of Luther Lnflin Mills, the famous lawyer whoso death took place here yesterday. His oratorical powers are well remember-ec'. remember-ec'. In one case, which Mr. Mills prosecuted bofore Judge W. K. McAllister McAl-lister many years ago, the Judge afterward after-ward granted a new trial, giving as his reason for so doing that the eloquence elo-quence of Mr. Mills had so moved him that he had disregarded tho evidence. "Mr, Mills' eloquence was so great." tald Judge McAllister, in recalling the case, long after he had left the bench, "that It carried mo away from the ev'.donce, and it was so with the jury. His eloquence was greater than tne evidence, and this didn't become apparent ap-parent to me until the motion for. a new trial was made." |
