Show I. WATER DISTRICT ; : .PLAii EXTENDED Governor to Request Aid of , Davis County Commision- ers in Project ' , SALT LAKE, April 22. Steps look ing to the formation of tin Irrigation i district of the entire county, north of ' the Bonneville district, and the con servation ot about 1)0,000 acre feet of ' the flood water of the Weber, whioh ' is now being- wasted annually In Great I ' Salt bake, wero taken yesterday in! Salt Lake by Governor Uainborgcr, who agreed to ask the Davis county commissioners for aid in the project. The decision was announced by the governor to a committee of Davis ! county residents and officials, who urged such action. 1 New District. . Formation of the new district vlll open a way for the completion of the 1 Echo reservoir project, it is. thought, and the construction of the canal will ' make possible the big saving o water which is now being wasteu from the AVober river. This .would mean the possible irrigation of about 30,000 , acres of new land, or the supplying of ' supplementary water to a much larger acreage now reviving a partial irrl-irnrlrm irrl-irnrlrm siinnlv. I It has been suggested also that with the Echo reservoir constructed, it would be possible to construct power 1 plants in Weber canyon between ihe "reservoir and the iniaKe of the proposed pro-posed new canal sufficient to develop 10,000 horsepower of hydro-elective energy, the supply being available at i the time when it would be needed to operate pumps for irrigation purposes. Under sucn a plan, lor example, me JJonneville irrigation district, which plans to pump water from the Jordun river at the soiitii end ot Davis eoun- ty, and Immediately north of the ilt Iakc City limit.?, could obtain Its power pow-er from the irrigation district, instead of from tho L'tali Power v Light company's com-pany's lines; and the district would be independent of tne schedules Jor power rates that may be obtained by Ujc power company from the utilities commission. The plant could also furnish power for the pumping of Lear river water, ' necessary tor eber county irrigation I j district's plans now being formulated I to bring water from tne jouice ot .up- P ply to "Weber county. I Jt has been suggested that additional ; 1 power might be uimished to some vi ' the plants now in opeitulon or coa-i I I templated for the utilization of Utinj I I lake water, ft l Meets Governor. 1 ji ' ' The committee whicn mei with HLj Governor Lamuerger yesterday ;ia 'j ihe farm bureau central committee u Davis county, and Was composed ot R David F. Smith, chairman oi the Da- 1 vis county conim.ssioti; Mayor Jolin A. Bourne of F.trmington, josepn .N. Hj i Ford of Centerviile, U. i;ouert ot H J Clearfield and . J Thayuu, county M ' agent at. Farmingtoii. HI Present at the i-oiifeieiice ao were H i , George F. ilcGonagle, suite engineer, H and Oro McDermitn, engineer tor tne H ' Utah Water b'toragc aaauciatlon. H I While it would be 'pos?nllo to form i tlic irrigation district on petition of fifty water-users of Davis county, it was declared to bo the better plan un- der the Utah law to have tne work I j ' initiated by the governor. There , is I j comparatively little difference in tho I .expense In any event, since the lniga- 1 4 I tjun district . law provides that the F j i state engineer is to make the water ) I allotment, and the stale and county . IJ. are to share this expense until the ir-( ir-( ngation district can be rormed and ! can reimburse them. J j1 ."When all the facts had been pre- I scntcd to tho governor he agreed to ' make the formal request on the Davis I t commission. |
