Show I. POPULATION OF MINING CAMPS Census returns from Utah, towns tell of thi ups and downs of mining camps. Eureka has grown from 3085 in 1000 to 3706. These figures indicate in-dicate a prosperous conditiou in the silver-leau mining industry. Eureka has enjoyed the benefits of a big increase in the price of silver sil-ver and lead, and, with new discoveries, including the opening up Of the vast ore bodies of the Tintic Standard, which original! was financed by Ogden men, has gained in industrial importance and population. But Mammoth, once a lively camp, must have experienced a slump. In 1010 that mining community numbcied 1771 Todaj Mammoth is not much more than half as large a it was ten years ago. Mining camps at best are most -uncertain. They go through periods of "boom" and often collapse over night. |
