Show I DEX B. ELLIS I INVENTS NEW I TIRGAUGE Automatically Registers Air Pressure in Auto Tire: De- vice Big Saving to Autoists. Then is always something new. Thousands of American are contm ually working for the betterment of I ho people as a whole. This is es peclally true in the line of new m-ventions. m-ventions. U it waa not tor Seidell and the years of labor h- '.! I " perfecting "he combustible engine we would not now be enjoying the lux-urious lux-urious autos which arc to be seen by the thousands in every city and hamlet in this country, and all error H the world, as a matter ol Also, were it not lor the invention of the pneumatic lire, there would be no pleasure in riding in an automo-bile automo-bile This industry has grown from a wee statt to trunendooua propor-lions propor-lions 62.oOO.o00 tires being manufac tured In the United States last year And so far as can be ascertained, there Is no real substitute for an i air inflated tube, principally for the ' good reason that air distributes it- ' self evenly throughout the tube and consequently gives to the outer cas-ing cas-ing an absolutely true and reliable running surface. There is only one fault to be found with an alr-mOated tube and this is that the people who use them cannot ascertain the exact pressure m- .nside the tire without going to a good deal of trouble in unscrewing nuts and caps and testing the same with a hand gauge. Consequently, the pressure of the Lire is allowed to run low and when an obstruction is encountered or a pltce of rough, un even road negotiated the fabric on H . the inside of the casing is broken and the casing's Hie shortened or ruined altogether. Testing tire pressure by hand is a slow and irksome task, and can be entirely avoided by the use of this , simple device. We used to put a : stick into our gasoline tank to as-: certain the number of gallons, quarts or pints we had aboard, and this method was no more cumbersome and unreliable than the method used to-day to-day in tire pressure testing. It is a well known fact, not only Irt rvnDrlt hut tho ponci ll :llr,. w ., a using public as well, thai tires will last twice io three times as long an der constant use if the Bame are kept at the standard pressure recommend ed by the tire manufacturers This has been a difficult thine to do in the past because all tires had to be tested by hand, and th annoyance and trouble attending this method caused a great majority ol the people to allow their tires to go without attention at-tention until the same were ruined by continually using them in an under-inflated condition. This method according to reliable Bta i cost the American public more than $300.-j $300.-j 000,000 last year. A nice Utile bill due entirely to the fact thai tlk?re was no reliable means of knowing Just what pressure the tire was carrying car-rying But thanks to a new invention, inven-tion, patented by Dex B. Ellis of I 'igden, all this expense and anno nee is to be done away with Mr -ZUis has Invented a device which fits! over the valve stem of any make of ' I automobile pneumatic tire and which nrojects through the demountable run, end wheel felly and shows above in uch manner that the pressure of tire 16 indicated accurately by large, readable figures on a brass tube. The "pressure of the tire, in fact, Is as Aeny to see as the tire itself. The levies Is made of brass throughout, 1 . "lo glass, celluloid or other breakable material enters into its makeup In fact, the gauge will outlast the life of any automobile, and is nut effect-ed effect-ed in the least by mud, water or any foreign substance, and will stand much rough handling as the car it self. It Is entirely automatic in its action and requires no attention from the autoist at any time. It can be truly said that necessity was the mother of this invention, and like all inventions that are really worth Ahile, it is the Idea that counts real ly more than the device itself. Mr Ellis is desirous of placing the device on the market at once and extends an invitation to any mnrui facturer of reliable standing to com municate with him regarding the production and sale of the gauge. "The gauge can be applied to ah) pneumatic lire within ten minutes I ij and the tire may be removed from ' I the demountable rim or wheel without 1 the necessity of removing nuts, caps or anything as a matter of fact." said j Mr Ellis. "It is simple, being built on an entirely new principle. It will register the air pressure absolutely I accurately and Is set in such a posi tion over the top of the felly of the wheel that It is In plain view at all ji times It is small, strong and com- I pact and adds rather than detracts from the appearance of the wheel. It will be possible to mako installations installa-tions on cars iu and around Weber We-ber county possibly as early as Sep-, J lember 1 have orders for more than 600 sets of gauges at this time from car owners In ihis vicinity, and will j of course, use every' endeavor to have 1 them placed on the market as soon af possible.
