Sunday morning when, at 10:30 o'clock 5 mass, two flags were presented to the pi church with fitting ceremonies. The m first was a beautiful American flag Wnnd the second the church's service f which was made and donated by the ladles of St. Joseph's Sewing so-, so-, Owing to the epidemic of Spanish 4 'jifluenza. the presentation ceremonies I erc postponed from a number of ' veeks ago, but the ceremonies were 1 none the less pleasing because of the I delay. Cushnahan ac-PWmpanied ac-PWmpanied by three altar boys ,des-I ,des-I rended from the altar carrying the-I the-I service flag and at the same time Sergeant T. Frank Smyth, home on a rf furlough from an army camp, prolyl pro-lyl cceded down the aisle bearing the V large American flag. At a point about ; in the center of the edifice, the two i 'lag- were unfurled while the church (. choir sang the Star Spangled Banner .'. snd America and a number of sol- Kldiors, home on furloughs and dls--harged frpm the army, stood proudly ai attention. i i The service flag Is or beautiful ,i workmanship and contains seventy -' ' five stars, one gold star, "represent - ' ing Blaine Wall and one silver 'star, , ' representing Raymond H. Ryan. Two I more silver stars are to be placed upon the flag and these will be for Ted Conroy, son of Dr. and Mrs. E. M. Conroy and Harold McKnlght. son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles McKnlght. The presentation ceremonies were completed with an eloquent address by Monsignor Cushnahan. oo |
