Show LIBERTY DAY IS TOMORROW, BUT SCHOOLS AND STORES WILL NOT CLOSE; DAY IS LEGAL HOLIDAY By official proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson, tomorrow Is -Liberty day throughout the United States. The city and county offices will be closed after noon and there will probably be other offices of the city close in honor of tho day. The schools will remain open but there will bo patriotic exercises exer-cises to emphasize the significance of the day to the students. A majority of tho merchants of the City were in favor of closinc Inmor-row, Inmor-row, but a few held out against such a move, and as a result all stores will remain open all day. President Wilson in his proclamation proclama-tion calls attention to the prime purpose pur-pose of the event In declaring i' should bo the day when the peoplo of the United States should nssemblc in their respective communities and Jib-' Jib-' e rally pledge anew their financial support sup-port to sustain the nation's cause. At the court house tomorrow Judge Agec's court will he open in the morning morn-ing for the setting of cases. Judge Pratt's court will be open in the afternoon after-noon for setting of cases but a brief session only will bo held The municipal munici-pal court will convene at the USUal how President Wilson's full proclamation in regard to Liberty Day Follows An eneniv who has grossly abused abus-ed the power of organized government govern-ment and who seeks to dominate the world by the might of the sword, challenges the rights of America and the liberty and life of all the free nations of the earth. Our brave sons are facing the firo of battle in defense of the honor and rights of America and the liberty lib-erty of nations. To sustain them and to assist our gallant associates in the war, a generous and patriotic patrio-tic people have been called upon to subscribe to the third Libertj loan. Now, therefore, I, Woodrow Wilson, Wil-son, president of the United States of America, do appoint Friday, the 26lh day of April, 1918, as Liberty Day. On the afternoon of that day I request the people of the United States to assemble in their respective respec-tive communities and liberally pledge anew their financial support sup-port to sustain the nation s cause. Patriotic demonstrations should be held in cvsjy city, town and hamlet ham-let throughout the land under tho general direction of the secretary of the treasury and the immediate direction of the Liberty loan committee com-mittee organized by the federal reserve banks. Let the nation's response to the third Liberty loan express in unmistakable terms the determination of America to fight for peace, the permanent peace of justice. For the purpose of participating in Liberty day celebrations, all employes of the federal government govern-ment throughout the country whose services can be spared may be excused at 12 o'clock noon. Acting Governor Harden Bennion has issued an appeal that all Utahns join in the observation of Liberty day. In his appeal ho calls attention to the fact that more than 10.000 of Utah's sons are in the fighting forces. oo are Dr. J. W. Pidcock of Ogden. president presi-dent of the company; T. L. Livsey, vice president and general manager, and John F. Martin, secretary-treasurer. A number of wealthy men are financially fi-nancially interested in the venture, some of them from Salt Lake and some from Ogden. The rig on the premises is one of the Keystone variety, which has a capacity ca-pacity of drilling to a depth of lf.00 feet The expert has stated that gas BhOUld be found at a depth of less than 1000 feet and that the flow of gas, when the main body is tapped, should be Irom 1,000,000 to 5,000,000 feet, a day The drilling is in progress at Thir ty-second street and Wyoming avenue. |
