Show COL, WE GIVEN A 11 WELCOME CAMP KEARNY, Cal . April 24 Colonel Richard W Young, who has been nominated for brigadier genrraj, and whose promotion la expected to be confirmed by the senate within a fen dayt arrived In camp this noon and took active command of the repi ment until his promotion is announced from Washington Colonel Young for the last four weeks has been at Fort Bill, Okla,, where he was a member of that camp's efficiency board for the examination of officers It was while at Fort Sill that Colonel j Young received his orders to undergo 1 physical examination, and he successfully success-fully passed before a medical board there A few days later the announce ment was made that he was recommended recom-mended for prefmotion by President Wilson and the recommendation turned over to the senate The great rush of war work is said to ha"e made It necessary for the military board to sidetrack the recommendation ior the time being, but definite action is expected ex-pected the latter part of this week. Is Met at Station. Upon arrival here Colonel Young was met at the depot by Lieutenant Colonel William C. Webb. Captain Curtis Y. Clawson, regimental adjutant, adjut-ant, and Captain Wesley E King, commander of the supply company. He was taken at once to the senior , officers' mess, where the officers were gathered to greet him. and a special dinner arranged in honor of hk return. re-turn. Colonel Youn said that while he has received no official notification as to his assignment, there appears to be little doubt that he will be given command of the Sixty-fifth brigade. He also feels sure that Colonel Webb will be given command of the Utah reHmnnl Colonel Young also brought back the news that Captain Charles R. Mabey and Captain Elmer Johnson, commanders of F and D batteries, had been retained at the Fort Sill school as instructors, and although their duty there is not expected to be permanent, per-manent, they will probably remain some time. Furloughs Are Granted. Private Keith Barnes of he- bjaar-ters bjaar-ters company was the first man in the regiment to obtain his leave, and he entrained this morning for Salt Lake. Several more furloughs have been granted and Will take effect April 29 for the period ending May 12 Those included in this list are: Private Ralph E. Brown. Private Merle Brown, Cook Charles Walbeck and Private Benjamin Brlnfihur6t of headquarters company, and Private Cloward Wells, Leland Redd and Thomas G. Roche of A battery. Scores of applications are now pouring into headquarters daily, and the leaves will be granted in cases where the men are eligible. 00- |
