ADOPTS J NEW CONSTITUTION The students of the Ogden high school have shown the spirit of democracy de-mocracy and tho determination to en J joy comparative freedom at all times i in the matter of governing the student I body by the reception given yesterday 1 to the proposed new constitution : which has been prepared by a committee commit-tee recently. j The committee has been working to 1 prepare ihe constitution which is to aerve for the government of the student stu-dent body and is to go into effect aft- I er next week. The document was presented pre-sented to the student body yesterday for approval and was accepted excopt as to some minor matters, among I Which was the proposed absolute veio authority to be vested in the principal .of the school. The students objected I to placing such a weapon in the hands of a principal as would allow him to (arbitrarily give a knockout to any niea.sure ihat did not meet his entire approval. I The constii u( ion provides for three bodh executive, legislative and judi-jclal. judi-jclal. all of whom will be filled by students stu-dents with the exception of the financial finan-cial department, in which a faculty I member will be in charge. An elec-1 elec-1 tion to determine who will be the first students to be officers in the organization organ-ization will be held next week Mill Catherine Hendershot was elected temporary secretary of the body. Mrs Phillip Kniscly, of the Drama ( club addressed tho assembly on the coming of Prof F. H. Clark, an eminent emi-nent lecturer, who will speak at the 'abernacle on May 3 and 4. The professor's pro-fessor's former appearances in Ogden weer spoken of by Miss Kniscly and also Mrs. Newcomb of the high school English department Both ladies recommended rec-ommended Professor Clark as a lec-jturer lec-jturer A special inducement was of-I of-I fered school children who wish to attend at-tend the lecture. |
