Show IELDEfi HEBER J, GW SPEAKS ON THE ELDERS The opening address, delivered by Elder Heber J. Grant at the quarterly conference of the Weber stake, held Sunday afternoon at the Tabernacle, was most interesting to tho members o tho Mormon church. Elder Grant reviewed the works of the ancient prophets and compared them with tho powers possessed by the Mormon elders eld-ers of the recent day. The address of Elder Grant was based on a published statement of Rov. T. H. Martin of the Unity church in which tho works of tho ancient prophets are reviewed and the writer writ-er declared that the present day churches are man-made, not God-made. God-made. Commenting on tho latter declaration dec-laration of Rev. Martin, Apostle Grant "More than 100 years ago, a fifteen- j year-old boy made tho declaration that tho churches then upon the earth were man-made and not of God, and I am glad to know that wo now have a sectarian minister that agrees with the Prophet Joseph Smith. Continuing, Continu-ing, he told of the restoration of the gospel o Christ through tho Instrumentality Instru-mentality of the "Morman" prophet ' and boro a fervent tostimony of the divinity of "Mormonism." This, he I substantiated by relating incidents of healings and manifestations of divine power under the hands of elders cf the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-' Latter-' day Saints within his own knowledge ( and experience, that paralleled those of tho apostles of the primitive church. "Every divino endowment, gift and ( power possessed by tho apostles of old is possessed by the elder of tile i Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-dav Saints and I can testify to you that this is the true church of God." Morning Session. At the morning session an excellent sermon was delivered by President I Alva L. Scovllle and a fine talk was IShurtliff who has recently been to Salmon City, Idaho, in company with Andrew Jensen, church historian. Tho meeting was attended by nearly ; 1000 members and officers of tho stake ! who were welcomed by President j John Watson. Tho Invocation was of fered by Elder Georgo Shorten. This, in brief, was to the effect ef-fect that ''the auxiliary associations have been doing well during tho summer, sum-mer, with tho patriotic course of the Mutual Improvement associations deserving de-serving special mention. Red Cross work and kindred activities havo signalized sig-nalized the summer program of tho 4 Relief societies, while the Religion class and Primary association aro ad- Jcramed according- to custom- The High Council Is continuing its Improved Improv-ed course, making its regular visits and scheduled fourth Sunday talks with unbroken regularity. To Carry Out Work.. The bishops of wards, their counselor coun-selor and workers in general aro more anxious than ever to lend a hand in the promotion of better ways and means for carrying on the work and a general tono of improvement Is visible. vis-ible. At Salmon City, ho said, tho party was royally received and entertained and he was greeted as ono of tho men who had founded Idaho.
