Show French Critic Reviews Sunday War Situation PARIS, July 22. In roviewing the military situation as it stood last night on the active front between Soissons and Rheims, the I-Iavas agency today says: "General Foch's victory increased greatly in scopo yesterday. With Chauteau Thierry evacuated by tho Germans the town was entirely cleared by an advance to the northward whilo from tho west Franco-American troops commanded by General le Gouette were crowding in on the Germans. Between Be-tween the Ourcq and tho Marno the enemy was attacked by detachments under General Mitry which had crossed cross-ed the Marne. Germans wore thrown back from eight to ten kilometers on tho Chateau Thierry front, "The enemy is opposing with desperate des-perate resistance farther north, endeavoring en-deavoring to maintain his hold on Soissons and Oulchy lo Chateau-which Chateau-which form the two pits of his defensive defen-sive system but his tenure of those points must be very difficult "Between the Marne and Rheims, French, British and Italians troops vied with each other in bravery and pressed the enemy without respite. The Allies made further important progress. "While the enemy has given way in tho center, he Is making desperate efforts ef-forts to hold the two flanks from Soissons Sois-sons to the Ourcq and from the Marne to Rheims." |
