Show UTAH BOYS AND GIRLS TO COMPETE WASHINGTON, Sept. 28. In co-operation with the boys and girls club work of the Utah Agricultural college, arrangements were completed today with the National Emergency Food Garden Commission to apportion five of the national prizes and national certificates cer-tificates of merit to Utah for the exhibition exhi-bition to be held in Salt Lake City, September 29 to October 6. These arrangements were made by J. C. Hogenson, the state leader In club work and Charles Lathrop Pack, the president of the commission. The commission com-mission is giving $5000 in prizes for the best canned vegetables grown In war gardens. There are one thousand $5 prizes which are being apportioned to the various states and with these ' prizes go national certificates of merit i which show that the winner of the $5 earned the prizes for good canning, work. The first check to be awarded went to Miss Helen Tew. of Washington, a I girl scout. Canning clubs all over the' country are working for the prizes and in co-operation with Cato Sells, the ( commissioner of Indian affairs, every reservation In the country war apportioned appor-tioned a prize. "We are very glad to see Utah get into this work In such fine shape," said Mr. Pack today, "and we are more than glad to apportion five of our prizes to that state where so much has been done to make the land produce pro-duce food. Any woman or boy or girl in Utah can have copies of our can- . ning, drying and storage manuals by sending a two-cent stamp for postage to 210 "Maryland Building." |
