Show NEWSPAPERS OF , GREAT SIZE As owner of the London .Times, Lord Northcllffe, who is in this country coun-try on a mission for the British, forecasts fore-casts a cutting down of the size of American newspapers to meet the lessening les-sening supply of raw material. "I am of the opinion, "he said, "that at least one-third of the paper used daily is wasted." Yes, fully one-third. The Sunday papers pa-pers of the larger metropolitan dallies dall-ies are padded with Illustrations and general comment. Much of the matter classed as "features" is not worth reading, being overdrawn and seldom based on facts. As a rule, not more than two or three paragraphs of a page article illustrated contain real information infor-mation or convey an Idea of value. Our papers would be greatly improved, im-proved, if they made less effort to produce "pages" and enrioavored more to condense their messages into articles arti-cles of inviting dress covering the pith of the news. i |
