Show OUTPUT OF -POTASH IS NEARLY DOUBLED Marysvale, Aug. S. Since Howard I''. Ohappell, president of the Mineral Products corporation, the plant of which, for the manufacture of potash from alunite, is located six miles southwesterly from here, took charge some three months ago, the plant has been remodeled, the working force reorganized and the output practically practical-ly doubled. In the old mill a large percentage of the calcined pulp was escaping through the revolving kiln, 110 feet long and ten feet in diameter. A dust chamber and flues were installed, in-stalled, sulphuric acid fumes forced through them and the result Is that a product yielding 18 per cent potash pot-ash is being saved. The output of potash from the same quantity of ore nas been practically doubled and the valuable aluminum content is being saved.' Without developing another ton of ore. there is- sufficient exposed to keep tho 100-ton plant busy during the next six years, according to President Presi-dent Chappell. In many places the pure crystallized alunite oro is 100 I feet v ide, with other and parallel l veins being opened. This condition t exists 1500 feet from the portal of f, the tunnel and for several hundred j; feet of sloping ground above the t m J; nel. It would appear that the pres i jj ent potash and prospective aluminum . industry of Utah hns developed from 1 the experimental and somewhat ( j doubtful stage of that of permanent ' ! The- Florence Mining & Milling ; I company, owning extensive alunite- p Houuoing ground adjoining and pst , P of the Mineral Products territory has started breaking ground for the ereo- , tion of a 100-ton mill. K Surveyors are running a line from ( the terminus of the Denver & Rio n Grande railroad to the millsite, a dis 5 tance of less than one-quarter of a ? mile By means of this extension tho , I thirty carloads of machinery now on the way will be unloaded at the mill- : 5 site and the output from the mill will ! ; j be loaded from the mill to the cars. |
