Show IRON CflUMTY NOW HAS' COAL AND SEEKS A . SUGAR PLAIT ' Iron county is already famous for Its rich coal and iron deposits and its people now are figuring on making It -a sugar beet district, to which end a committee conferred yesterday with L. HI Eccles In an effort to have a sugar factory established In the vicinity of Parowan. The Iron county people were advised ad-vised that tho Amalgamated Sugar company is ready to build a factory wherever sufficient acreage of beets is offered, 5000 acres being the least that could be taken Into consideration. considera-tion. Tho committee was of the opinion opin-ion that the question of acreage would llot bo difficult to meet and said that data respecting acreage and, also, railroad rail-road transportation, would be sent to the sugar company in a short time, It Is expected that railroad transportation trans-portation will be obtained by a branch line from Lund to Parowan, as A. H. Rollo, editor of the Parowan newspaper, news-paper, received a telegram yesterday, while on his way to tho Republican convention, stating a strike of three feet of the best coal in the state had been encountered in properties now being developed In what is known as "The Gap," which will furnish sufficient suf-ficient tonnage to justify the San Pedro people building a road to that point, a distance of about 35 miles. Mr. Rollo and other owners of the new coal property are certain that coal in large quantities will be uncovered. un-covered. A shaft 150 feet deep has been sunk. The coal cokes readily and in other respects Is of the very best quality. With the beet industry added to the other industrial facilities, Editor Rollo Is of the opinion that Iron county will become one of the most prosperous and thickly populated counties of Utah. nn |
