Show M0HR MURDER TRIAL NOW ON Providence, R. L, Jan. 9. A murder trial of unusual interest, in which Mrs. Elizabeth F. Mohr and two ne-groso ne-groso will appear as defendants on charges growing out of the killing of her husband, Dr. C. Franklin Mohr. lour months ago, will begin here tomorrow. to-morrow. Mrs. Mohr is under Indictment Indict-ment as an accessory before the fact the state's contention being that prompted by jealousy, she hired the negroes to commit the crime. Cecil Ce-cil V. Brown and Henry Spellman, half brothers, are the negroes who will be tried for the murder. Dr. Mohr, who was accompanied bv his secretary, Miss Emily Burger, was shot from ambush on the night of August 31, while his automobile was stalled. He died without recovering consciousness, but Miss Burger although al-though shot twice, survived. It is the ' cliam of the state that the automobilo was purposely stalled by George "W. ,-w Healis, Dr. Mohr's negro chauffeur, at m a point previously agreed upon witb j the other negroes. Healis will not be tried. & Last Friday, after the murder indict- ment found against him had been K quashed, he pleaded nolle contendrc re to a charge of manslaughter. Sentence m has been deferred. It is understood that he will appear as the state's prin- k clpal witness. Be Mrs. Mohr has maintained that she ? and her husband were both victims I of conspiracies by the negroes and that they falsely directed suspicion against her when they were appre- henaed. She is at liberty under bond. ' |
