Show L0RDBURNHAM CALLED BYDEATH London, Jan. 9. Lord Burnham,, proprietor of tho London Daily Telegraph, Tele-graph, died here today. He was 82 years old and had been critically ill for several weeks. Since his retirement retire-ment from active newspaper work several years ago, Lord Burnham had lived quietly at his country seat with his family. His eldest son, the Hon. Harry Lawson, has been the active manager of the Daily Telegraph and has represented London districts in parliament since 1885. Two of Lord Burnham's threo' grandsons have been killed in battlo nnd tho third is at the front with his regiment. Lord Burnham was tho last of the eld school of London newspaper owners. own-ers. He was born Edward Levy, December De-cember 28, 1833, and in 1875 assumed the surname of his uncle, Lionel Law-son. Law-son. He was created a baronet in October, 182, and wns raised to the peerage as Baron Burnham in July, 1P03. His wife was the daughter of Bonjamin N. Webster, the famous actor-manager. no |
