Show JOINT WHIN Of STSKE SOW SCHOOLS The annual Joint convention of the Weber, North Weber, Ogden and North Davis stakes Sunday school workers was held yesterday in the Weber academy and Ogden tabernacle and, in the closing words of Apostle David 0. McKay, who presided at both sessions, ses-sions, was one of the "most inspirational inspira-tional conferences ever held in the church." The general board members in attendance, each of whom conducted conduct-ed department work at the morning meeting in the academy, were: Apostle David O. McKay, first assistant assist-ant superintendent, superintendents and librarians' department; T. Albert Hooper, secretaries and treasurers'; Prof. Joseph Ballantyne, choristers and organists'; Nathan T. Porter, parents' pa-rents' classes; Milton Bennion, theological; theo-logical; Harold G. Reynolds, second intermediate; George M. Cannon, first intermediate; Charles B. Felt, primary; pri-mary; Kate McAllister, kindergarten department. They were assisted by the following members of the four stake boards: A. F. Behllng, Jay G. Stone, George W. McCune, Wilford M. Bramwell, Leroy Leishman, Nettie M. Herrick, Olive Spangenberg and Jennie Jen-nie C. Neal. The convention was opened -with a special meeting of the general board members, stake presidents, high counselors, stake superintendents, stake board members and ward bishoprics, at 9:30 a. m., in the Weber academy. This session was opened by the singing of 'Sweet Is the Work" by the assembly, under the direction of Joseph B. Jarman and with organ accompaniment by Vera Day. The invocation was offered by President L. W. Shurtliff of the Weber stake. The reading of written suggestions on Sunday school work occupied ten minutes time and a general discussion of fifteen minutes' duration followed. The closing feature of the program was a fifteen-minute talk on "Local Board Work" by First Assistant General Gen-eral Superintendent David O. McKay. The benediction -was pronounced by President James Wotherspoon of the North Weber stake. This meeting was followed by the opening general session of the convention, con-vention, at which 1037 Sunday school workers were present. This total represented 98 per cent of the workers work-ers of the Ogden stake, 96 of the Weber stake; 93 of the North Weber and 58 of the North Davis. The song "Far, Far Away on Judea's Plains" was first sung by the assembly, and the invocation was offered by President Presi-dent T. B. Evans of the Ogden stake. The song, "Oh, It Is Wonderful" was next sung, with Ellen H. Thomas as chorister and Lester Hinchcliff as or ganist. Instructions concerning the work of the convention were given by Stake Superintendent Brigham H. Goddard of the Weber stake, and department de-partment work was then taken up. In the different departments papers were read by Joseph S. Campbell, Inez Ingebretsen Lester Hinchcliff, Dr. W. R. Emmett, William J. Rack-ham, Rack-ham, Samuel M Kershaw and Earl Read, of Ihe Weber stake; Lorene Oborn, Katherine McKay, Cora Kaslus, William A. Walker, Joseph R. Jepp-son, Jepp-son, Blanch Huband and Angus E. Berlin, of the Ogden stake; Walter W. Steed, Jr., Jessie A. Robins, Del-bert Del-bert Bone, Leon M. Strong, Olive Abrams and Mary Parker, of the North Davis stake, and Nellie Hendricks, Hen-dricks, Margaret Wilkinson, Silas D. Rawson, Albert J. Powell and Jay G. Stone, of the North Weber stake. Each paper was excellently .written, concerning with vital force the question ques-tion at hand. General discussion followed fol-lowed each reading and much interest was manifested In them. , At 12:30 o'clock, the meetings were adjourned with prayer, but the Sunday school workers and visitors were instructed to remain in the class rooms. Within a few minutes they were agreeably surprised by the appearance of committees com-mittees of young ladles from the Ogden Og-den wards of the Weber, North Weber and Ogden stakes, who served them with a substantial luncheon. More than 1100 persons partook of this hospitality. The afternoon meeting, which convened con-vened in the tabernacle at 2 o'clock, was attended by 12C2 persons mainly Sunday school workers, and many others who desired to attend were unable un-able to get into the house of worship. The session was marked with a splendid splen-did musical program by the Ogden tabernacle choir and soloists, under the direction of Jose'ph Ballantyne, and short talks by general board members mem-bers and representatives of stake boards. Whitaker. tabernacle organist organ-ist plaved as a prelude: "Serenade" (Ralph Kinder), and the further program pro-gram of music, the numbers being taken from the cantatas "The Coming of the King" and "Christ the Victor," were as follows: "The Advent" and "The Annunciation," Annuncia-tion," tabernacle choir, Leslie Saville and Douglas Brian, soloists. "The Plains of Bethlehem," Leslie Saville and Douglass Brian, soloists, men's chorus and ladies' chorus. "Across the Desert," Leslie Saville, Leo Madsen, Douglass Brian and male chorus. "The Questioning of the Magi," William Wil-liam S. Wright and Leslie Saville, soloists, and choir. "The Easter Dawn," Agnes Warner and .choir. Organ postlude, "58 Postlude" (Stein), Sam F. Whitaker. The invocation was offered by C. C. Richards of the Ogden stake presidency presi-dency and a report of the attendance at the morning session was made by F. A. Behling, convention secretary. In five minute talks, the topic "Our Sunday Schools, the Promise of the Future," was discussed by George C. Etsign, Weber stake; Wm. M. McKay, Mc-Kay, Ogden stake; Thomas Irvine. North Weber stake, and Thomas E. Williams, North Davis stake. Tne other speakers were Charles B. Felt, who spoke on the subject of efficiency in teaching. Milton Bennion, on the subject of physical comfort in the Sunday school room; Nathan T. Porter, Por-ter, on the subject of harmony between be-tween teachers, students and parents, and President Henry II. Blood of the North Davis stake, who spoke on the importance of Sunday school work. Apostle McKay In bringing the meeting to a close oxpressed the thanks and appreciation of the general gene-ral board members to all who had taken an active part in the convention conven-tion either by choir attendance or In furnishing music or papers. He said that the convention had been remarkable remark-able In the way of attendance, nineteen nine-teen wards having had 100 per cent of their Sunday school workers present. pres-ent. At the conclusion of the apostle's remarks, Superintendent B. H. Goddard God-dard of the Weber stake schools, on behalf of the workers of the four stakes, thanked the general board members for the Instructions and Inspiration In-spiration they had given during the day, for the future good of the Sunday school cause.
