Feb 17, 7 25 p. m An official of-ficial communication issued by the ministry of marine tells of the sinking sink-ing yesterday by the German submarine subma-rine U-16 of the French steamer Ville de Lille off the Barfleur lighthouse, a short distance east of Cherlourg. after the submarine had ordered the crew to leave the steamer. The statement state-ment follows: "The French steamer Ville de Lille, belonging to the t'oinpagnie Naviga tion des Bateaux a Vapeur du Xord, sailing from Cherbourg to Dunkirk, sighted the German submarine U-16 near the lighthouse at Baorfleur at 1:30 o'clock yesterday.
