Show oo FARMERS WANT TIE ELECTRIC ROAD CONSTRUCTED There is still a prospect of securing secur-ing contracts for a sufficient acreage acre-age of sugar beet culture In the Huntsville, Eden and Liberty districts dis-tricts to justify the extension of the electric interurban car line from Idle-wild Idle-wild in Ogden canyon to Huntsville. L. R. Eccles. manager of the Amalgamated Amal-gamated Sugar company, states that his company will agree to use beets from 300 or more acres of land, and contract for their delivery at points in the valley. If the Ogden Logan & Idaho company will not build the Idle-wlld-Huntsville extension for tbe traffic traf-fic offered In that amount of beets, the sugar company will haul the beeis to the Idlewild terminal by team, but Mr. Eccles is of the opinion that the car extension would be made, if the fanners plant .'00 acres to beets. , A number of farmers of the valley have taken the matter up and it Is reported that additional acreage Is being be-ing offered each day. The farmers state that not only will the car company get a heavy traffic on beets planted, but that there will be a large tonnage of other farm products now being hauled by team to railroad points. Tbey point to the heavy tonnage of hay and grain and also contend that the herds of sheep and cattle driven from the mountains to Ogden for shipment would be loaded load-ed on the Interurban cars ut Huntsville. Hunts-ville. Aside from this, the passenger traffic would be of considerable im portance, au it would be cheaper for residents of the valley to come to Ogden by rail than to drive their teams to town and feed them in livery stables while attending to business affairs. |
