A preliminary survey has been made, marking the outline of the course of the watermain along the hill side of the county highway From Coldwater canyon to the Hermitage, the road traverses the south bank of the river, but from that point to the wells it is on the north bank. The pipe line will be laid along the highway, the engineer states, as It will be more accessible when repairs are needed, and the clearing of the surface of trees and brush will be avoided. The pipe dops not necessarily hav to be protected against frost, as the water will flow through the main continuously, con-tinuously, which will be a safeguard against freezing, but it will be placed about three feet under ground regular grade will be established, cuts, fills bridges or trestle to be made, if neecsBarv There will be but one bridge to build, which will he at the crossing of the river immediately imme-diately above the Hermitage grove The water will be siphoned across the north fork of the river near the wHls The channel is small and It will require re-quire but little expense to run the pipe underneath the stream As soon as the survey Is completed, plans and specifications will be pre parrd for the benefit of contractors who will be asked to bid on the work. The coet cannot even be approximate ly estimated until the survey has been made and a knowledge of the nature of the trench Is acquired In the meantime, the city commissioners are making plans for bonding the city for the Improvement, and are negotiating nego-tiating with eastern mmpanlps for pipe. It is expected that wood-stave pipe will be used from the wolls to the power dam and that it will bo about three feet in diameter From the dam to Coldwater will be placed iron pipe, 24 or 26 inches In diameter nr |
