The statement is made that In 1 OB Angeles not less than 300 of those automobiles are being operated at a profit. Street car systems are suffering a heavy falling oft' in business because oi this new competition and the nun-ace.rs nun-ace.rs are insistintr that, inasmuch as the railways aie compelled to obtain ob-tain franchises and pay taxes on big investments, the jitney busses should be similarly taxed or at least required re-quired to carry some of the restrictions restric-tions placed on street car systems. With the improvements being made in automobiles reducing ihe first cost and bringing about many economies econo-mies in operation while increasing efficiency ef-ficiency the day may not be far dls tant when much of the passenger trael over street car lines will paiis permanently to the Jitney bus. |
