Show uu EXPLOSION AT DU PONT WORKS Philadelphia, Jan. 14 An acid house at the plant of the Du Pont Powder company at GIbbstown, N. J., blew up tonight, injuring five workmen, work-men, two of them probably fatally. It was the eighth explosion at tho Du Pont plantB in this section in the last three months, with a total of thirty-nine thirty-nine deaths and injury to twenty persons. per-sons. Tho building in which tonight's accident ac-cident occurred was of brick and iron construction and was known as the nitrate of ammonia crystallizing house. It was hero that nitrate was transformed from the crystal to liquid form to be used In the manufacture of dynamite. The structuro was completely com-pletely demolished at an estimated loss of $25,000. C. B. Landis, representing the company, com-pany, stated that tho plant Is carefully careful-ly guarded and that there Is no reason rea-son to suspect that tho blast was due to other than natural causes. |
