Show uu RECEPTION I ll OF H CATHOLIC BISHOP Salt Lake, Septl Hundreds of Salt Lakers, Catholics and non-Catholics alike, were charmed last night by the graciousness of the Right Reverend Joseph S. Glass, C. M., D. D., bishop of Salt Lake, who received the members mem-bers of his flock and scores of others at a delightful reception on the mezzanine mez-zanine floor of the Hotel Utah. The reception for tho new bishop was one of the most pleasing functions func-tions of its kind evor held in Salt Lake City. It was attendod by hundreds hun-dreds of prominent citizens. Hundreds Hun-dreds of non-Catholics Joined with their Catholic friends in welcoming the new bishop of the diocese to the city. Sincere words of welcome were spoken by those who mot tho bishop and shook his hands, and tho new bishop's bis-hop's charming affability and cordiality cordial-ity won for him a warm place in the hearts of those privileged to greet him Tho function at the Hotel Utah came at the conclusion of a day of welcoming. The bishop arrived from Los Angeles yoBterday afternoon. He was taken on a pleasant automobile trip about tho city, and later in the evening was the guost of tho Very Rev. Father Donls Klely, vicar general gen-eral and administrator of the diocese, and of tho ladles of tho Altar society at a delightful dinner at Cathedral hall. Soon after dinner the new blBhop and the clergy went to Hotel Utah, where tho reception was begun at 8 o'clock in the evening. Tho receiving lino stood in the beautiful ballroom on tho mezzanine floor. Tho room was beautifully decorated with Amori. can flags and with the papal colors, yellow and white. A nroXusioa of flowers added to tho charm of the decoration. Great masses of flowers and palms masked the orchestra. Near tho receiving line was a large portrait of the now bishop. On one side of the bishop's picture was a picture of President Woodrow Wilson and on the other side a picture of Pope Benedict XV. Near these pictures pic-tures were portraits of the late Right Rev. Laurence Scanlan, D. D., tho beloved be-loved pioneer bishop of Salt Lake whom Bishop Glass now succeeds, and the late Most Rev Patrick W. Riordan, D D., late archbishop of San Francisco, who for many years presided pre-sided over this ecclesiastical province. oo |
