A formal protest pro-test against the proposed change In the routing of parcol post packages Into tho Uinta country was yesterday presented to tho Rotary club by the Provo commercial club. The changes in the parcel post service become 'effective 'ef-fective today and higher postage will be charged to three points In this state, two in Colorado, four in Idaho, four in Nevada and nine in Wyoming. Tho affected points normally are in the parcol post zones which would require re-quire a lower postage rato than Is provided by the new regulation, which sets forth that delivery to those points from Salt Lako will require a haul of 300 miles or inoro by iho shortost regular mail routes ovor which mail Is ordinarily dispatched. Heretoforo parcel post packages addressed ad-dressed to points in tho Uinta country coun-try went from Salt Lako through Provo and thenco eastward. By tho now regulation parcel post mall will ? from Salt Lake to Mack, Colo hence to Watson, Utah, and then to Vernal by stage. The'utahSof. flees affected by the now rate are'i Dragon, Gandy and Watson. Dragon and Watson are In Uinta county and Gandy Is In Millard county. However, the government has ruled that, while packages destined for Vernal Ver-nal shall go by way of Mack, Colo., and Watson, the rate to Vernal shall , be based on the shortest mall route, which Ib by way of Provo and Helper, Utah. The new route chosen by the government will take two days more time for delivery than the route . through Helper. The postage rate i charged to Watson la one-third more than Is the rate to Vernal, despite the fact that packages for the latter point are carried through Watson. |
