Tho Gorman admiralty today advanced ad-vanced the suggestion that tho submarine subma-rine which may havo torpedoed the steamer Arabic possibly had foundered founder-ed or had been sunk by tho British. A high official of the admiralty, in again declaring that absolutely no news of the sinking of tho Arabic -was as yet available, said: "Would it not be lamentable if tho submarine should have been lost and we should never learn what happened? hap-pened? Soon after the Arabic sank I said we should in all probability have the details by tho end of August Au-gust or early in September at the latest. More of our boats which woro on tho west coaBt of England at the time have now returned, but none so far knows anything about tho Arabic. "It probably will be possible within a very short time I can not say precisely pre-cisely how many clays to tell whether wheth-er our apprehensions regarding tho submarine are correct," Tho official would not say whether one or more of tho submarines in question still were out nor how long any one vessel had been away from its base, but stated sufggestively: "They seldom remain out longer than three weeks and we usually got a report on nny torpedoing operations in from eight to fourteen days rarely rare-ly later than a fortnight after the occurrence." oc-currence." nn |
